Association of Physicians of Pakistani-descent of North America (APPNA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering scientific development and education in the field of medicine and to delivering better health care, irrespective of race, color, creed, or gender.
As the newly elected President of APPNA-AZ I would like to start by expressing my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for considering me worthy of this honor. It is with a deep sense of commitment and responsibility that I take over the responsibility of President of APPNA-AZ.
As a community organization APPNA-AZ depends on each and every one of its members to attain it’s maximum potential. But I, along with other elected members bear extra responsibility. Though as always we will rely on continued support from the membership to fulfill our roles.
Among many others our main challenge in the near future is going to be dealing with the increasing anti Pakistani rhetoric in the media both in Arizona in particular and US in general. We will always be looking towards our membership for advice and guidance to improve our image.
As a philanthropic organization, we will continue to try to help community members irrespective of their race, faith and belief, to achieve better healthcare.
Our predecessors have done a great job in establishing a free clinic. We will have to work very hard not only to sustain this great effort, but also do everything possible to help the clinic continue to flourish.
We will continue to work toward breaking down the barriers that have prevented many sections within our community, including women, younger generations etc from actively taking over the leadership roles within APPNA-AZ.
I wish all of you a very happy prosperous year.
Maqbool Halepota, MD, FACP
President APPNA-AZ 2016
